The term "continent" is the most commonly used synonym for the word "continental landmass". The seven continents of the world are Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe, and Australia. The term "mainland" is used to refer to the largest contiguous landmass of a country or region, as opposed to islands or other smaller landmasses. The terms "supercontinent" and "subcontinent" are used to describe large landmasses that are either part of a larger landmass or are divided into smaller regions.
