Dowelling is a term which refers to the act of joining two pieces of wood together by using a wooden or metal pin which is inserted into a hole which has first been drilled or bored into both pieces. In the woodwork industry, this technique is commonly referred to as joinery. There are, however, several synonyms for the term dowelling which can be used interchangeably to describe the same process. These include the terms pegging, fastening, connecting, binding, joining, and linking. All of these terms are used to describe the method of connecting two pieces of wood together in a secure and durable manner.
