Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) is a mental condition characterized by excessive self-admiration, a lack of empathy, and an inflated sense of self-importance. There are numerous synonyms for the term NPD. Some of the commonly used synonyms include self-centered, self-absorbed, self-obsessed, egocentric, egomaniacal, narcissistic, and vain. Other less commonly used synonyms are self-involved, self-referential, self-aggrandizing, and self-serving. Although these terms have various connotations, they all describe individuals who are overly preoccupied with themselves, have little consideration for others, and display an inflated sense of importance or entitlement. Identifying these qualities is essential for diagnosing and effectively treating NPD.
