The dorsal region is an important part of the human body as it comprises the upper back area. However, there are other synonyms that can be used to describe this region of the body such as the thoracic area, the upper spine or the posterior trunk region. The thoracic area is specifically used to describe the upper chest and upper back region, while the upper spine refers to the area that runs along the top of the spine from the base of the neck to the bottom of the rib cage. The posterior trunk region refers to the back of the body from the neck to the buttocks. All of these terms are interchangeable and can be used to describe the same anatomical region.
